Krakow, Poland is one of the least expensive cities in Europe to visit and the town subsequently makes a good stop if one happens to be passing through. Staying in this city will only set budget travelers back around $30 USD per night, but visitors with a higher budget will also find themselves well pleased with the bargains that can be found here. After all, Krakow ranked as the 4th most affordable destination in Europe according to Price of Travel’s list for 2015.
Unlike Warsaw, which was heavily damaged during the Second World War, Krakow retains a large percentage its’ original buildings. Travelers might enjoy visiting the town’s Market Square, a place where flea markets take place on certain weekends and there are always plenty of dining options. Another good place to stop is the city’s Historic Centre. This area contains St. Mary’s Church, a cathedral that is well known for its’ artworks. Only participants are allow in the during the two Sunday Masses, but travelers can purchase tickets to view the alter area at other times from a booth that is located across the street. Trip Advisor user, Rob R. also reports that, “it is possible to walk up the tower to get an aerial view of the city, though this is only possible on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday.”
The Wawel Royal Castle is another town highlight. Admission to the castle grounds is free of charge but some portions of the site require entry tickets. Most people find the guided tours to be the best way of experiencing everything that the site has to offer. Don’t miss seeing Leonardo da Vinci’s painting, Girl with an Ermine, when you’re here. As the country’s answer to Westminster Abbey, the nearby Wawel Cathedral holds the mortal remains of many distinguished Poles as well as the deceased members of the royal family. The spot remains another place that ranks high among Trip Advisor reviewers and therefore it is certainly worth a visit as well.
