Ireland is a major hub for air transport from North America and many passengers to other places may find themselves hanging out in one of the local airports. However, the country is well worth a stop on its own merits. This is even truer of Dublin, a city that happens to have plenty of things for travelers to see when they are passing through. Here are just a few activities we highly recommend.
Visit Some Free Sights. Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you can’t save money! Bibliophiles might want to stop by the Chester Beatty Library to see their wide collection of manuscripts. Meanwhile, art aficionados should make their way to the Irish Museum of Modern Art, for precisely what the name implies, or the National Gallery of Ireland, for a more classical approach to the subject. Gardeners should be sure to stop by the National Botanic Gardens as well. Anyone interested in history, art, archeology, or taxidermy should drop at the National Museum of Ireland for exhibits which cover all of the aforementioned topics. Of course, travelers can also enjoy a leisurely picnic lunch in Phoenix Park if the weather is nice.
Take a Distillery Tour. Both the Jameson and Guinness Breweries offer tours to the public so why not start off learning about these two brews on their home ground before indulging in some rounds at the local pubs? Adult admission to the Guinness factory is about $18 USD but tickets can be booked online for a slight discount. The experience covers the cost of a pint as well as the exhibits found within. By comparison, the Jameson Distillery gives their guests a tour that provides an overview of the whisky making process and a whiskey tasting afterwards. This event costs around $14 USD. In both places, students and senior citizens receive a slight discount off general admission prices.
Happy Travels!
