There are plenty of reasons to visit the City of Lights. After all, Paris is home to an irresistible mix of high fashion, delicious food, and important works of art that make it this French city one of the top destinations in Europe, particularly in the spring when the weather is nice. Of course, there are some landmarks in this town that visitors should definitely make time to see while they are here. The list below contains just a few of our favorites.

Notre Dame Cathedral: With its’ beautiful stained glass windows and charming rooftop gargoyles, this Gothic cathedral has withstood all that time could throw at it. The building was even used for grain storage during the French Revolution. There is no fee for entering the church, which still holds Mass on a regular basis, but there is a charge to climb the stairs to the rooftop where there are great views over the city itself. Notre Dame Cathedral can be found in the on the Île de la Cité, which is in the middle of the Seine River.

Louvre Museum: Skipping the much-touted and somewhat overrated Mona Lisa painting, is one sure way to avoid the crowds here. There is plenty to see here instead including artworks from both ancient Rome and ancient Egypt. Admission costs €16 for adults that are over the age of 26 and want to see everything the museum has to offer. In order to spend the most time possible with the artworks, it’s a good idea pay a visit on either a Friday or a Wednesday when the main building stays open until 9:45 pm. Travelers on a budget should drop by on the 1st Sunday of the month because admission is complimentary but be prepared to deal with the resultant crowds.

Eiffel Tower: Yes, this site is more than a bit touristy and has exceptionally long lines but it is still an obligatory stop for those who happen to be in town. Impatient souls will be happy to learn that this Paris landmark can be easily photographed from the nearby park but those that want to take in the view from the top will certainly have to wait before reaching either the elevators or the stairs to the top. Adult admission prices on the landmark’s website are currently at €17 for visiting the highest level and €11 for stopping on the second level. Of course, these prices do vary based on a traveler’s age and which platform they want to visit.
