The internet is a marvelous thing. Instead of going to a library and finding out-of-date books about far-flung destinations, we can have information and tips at the click of a button.
But while there are plenty of great travel websites available, there’s also a lot that are…not so great. Often you’ll click onto a site that could only be described as “link bait” with poor grammar and spelling and no real quality information.
Here are some awesome travel websites you probably haven’t heard of, but you’re sure to find helpful.
Triptease
Triptease has advice from both professionals and the community allowing you to either search specific locations or “stumble” to get inspiration for your nest destination. The itineraries are well worth a look, and you may find yourself passing up Paris for Bangkok, or New York for Capetown.
Jet Lag Rooster
If you know you’ll be crossing multiple time zones, Jet Lag Rooster will create the ultimate sleep schedule, tailored for your trip and designed to help you avoid getting jet lagged. 3 days before your flight you can enter the details and you’ll know the best times to sleep, and when to stay awake in the days leading up to your trip and while you’re traveling.
iFly
Once your flights are booked, jump on iFly which gives you up-to-date information about delayed, and detailed information about airports. You’ll be able to find the best places for shopping and eating, easily navigate terminals, and get in contact with the lost and found in any airport.
Spotted by Locals
With 57 city guides across North America and Europe, you’ll be getting travel advice from locals, easily finding activities away from the crowds and restaurants which are off the beaten path.
Trover
If TripAdvisor and Instagram had a baby, it would be called Trover. The interface allows visitors to share photos of their travels along with reviews of experiences, making it easy for you to browse for unique and interesting ideas while planning your next trip.
Foodspotting
Foodspotting is an app which you can use both at home, and while traveling. You can easily find the best place to get whatever food you’ve been craving by simply plugging in what you want to eat and where you’re located. You’ll then be given a list of nearby cafes and restaurants along with reviews so you can find the perfect place to eat.
Sandemans New Europe
If you’re heading to Europe and planning to see a lot of it on food, Sandemans is an excellent resource. Sandemans offers free walking tours in 18 cities, and the tours are run by local guides who can give you information that a travel guide couldn’t. If you know you’ll have an afternoon or morning free at some stage during your trip, check if Sandemans has a walking tour available, and you’ll get an inside look at Europe.
