Atlanta Activities

For nearly twenty years, Hartsfield Airport in Atlanta has seen the most passenger traffic in the entire world as planes arrive and depart almost around the clock. Travelers who have found themselves here over the years have naturally encountered the inevitable flight delays and cancellations that are common at any airport. However, there is no reason why stranded travelers shouldn’t take advantage of being stranded in this classic Southern city. In fact, here are some excellent places to visit if your flight happens to be delayed.

Atlanta Botanic Gardens: Despite the fact that admission prices at this spot run about $20 per adult and $13 per child, careful planning will certainly help travelers get the most for their money. After all, the Atlanta Botanic Garden often hosts cooking demonstrations, horticultural lectures, art exhibits, evening concerts, and other activities that are all included in the ticket price. The botanical offerings are also incredible. The carnivorous plants exhibits, the orchid house, the children’s garden, and the desert environment are all particularly noteworthy places to stop as one is making their way through the grounds.

Fox Theatre: This opulent, Arabian style theatre dates back to the 1920s but it remains a popular venue for concerts, traveling Broadway shows, and other theatrical events in the downtown Atlanta area. Guided tours of the building are available during the day but coming to see a show here is a real treat. Although there is often a wait to use the restrooms during intermissions, the facilities are usually nice and clean. The staff is also quite friendly. However, budget minded travelers should be aware that sitting in the nosebleed section of this theatre requires being able to maneuver up some steep staircases and make their plans accordingly. Parking can typically be found nearby in underground garages but there are a few places to park in the open air if one arrives early enough.

Georgia Aquarium: Scenes from the movie The Last Song were filmed here in 2009, but the aquarium hasn’t lost its’ apparent charm in the years since then. The building is still filled with dolphins, beluga whales, sea otters, sharks, and other aquatic denizens. Travelers should be sure to catch the excellent dolphin show that takes place here on a regular basis. The Aquarium is open from 10 am to 5 pm most days of the week. It also opens an hour early and closes an hour late on Saturdays. Those coming here will definitely need to allot three or more hours in order to see everything this site has to offer. It’s also a good idea to combine a trip to this spot with the nearby World of Coca- Cola, which is another popular Atlanta attraction.
