Breaking: AirAsia Flight Loses Contact

AirAsia Flight QZ8501 with 162 passengers and flight crew lost contact about 40 minutes after take off from Indonesia. The flight was headed to Singapore.

Early developments are showing that the disappearance may have been caused because of storms occurring over the Java Sea.

“Pilots believe that the crew, in trying to avoid the thunderstorm by climbing, somehow have found themselves flying too slow and thus induced an aerodynamic stall similar to the circumstances of the loss of Air France AF447 to crash in 2009,” Thomas told AAP.

Update: The plane has been found on the seafloor of the Java Sea. The search efforts yielded debris on the surface of what looked like an airplane door which allowed the search efforts to be concentrated and led to the plane being found. Authorities have begun to find bodies and the first two bodies have arrived for identification purposes.
