Royal Caribbean Wow with Quantum of the Seas

Royal Caribbean have long been known for their impressive use of space, and it looks like they’ve once again blown the competition out of the water with their newest venture: Quantum of the Seas. This highly anticipated megaship is the most hi-tech cruise ship in the world, and will be debuting this month.

This is the first of Royal Caribbean’s new class of vessel, and while it’s not as big as the Oasis class ships, it’s still among the 10 largest passenger ships in the world.

Size isn’t everything though, and what makes this ship stand out from the crowd is what Royal Caribbean call “the game-changing technology”. This is the first ship to have a skydiving simulator, allowing passengers to experience the thrill of jumping out of a plane, all while safely on board the ship.

Some of the other state-of-the-art features include the bionic bar, where robotic arms will make drinks for passengers, and the high-speed internet which “offers passengers more bandwidth than every other cruise ship in the world combined”.

Most impressive though, is the North Star-a capsule which gently rises over 300 feet above the sea, giving passengers incredible 360º view of both the ship and the horizon.

The staterooms have been completely redesigned for the Quantum, and passengers who book inside cabins will have virtual balconies, with floor-to-ceiling TVs which broadcast real-time ocean views.

Families will enjoy this ship, as the onboard entertainment complex includes rollerskating, bumper cars, and even a circus school with a flying trapeze. Solo travelers are also in luck, as for once they won’t have to pay a single supplement, and instead can book themselves into one of the 28 solo cabins onboard.

Cruisers will want to book soon though, since the Quantum will be permanently operating out of Shanghai from May 2015. The company has been gradually expanding into the Chinese market, and have had such success that they decided to let Quantum join the Mariner of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas in China.

While many of the passengers sailing out of Shanghai will be Chinese, the ship also offers an excellent opportunity for North Americans to explore Asia by ship.
