Staying in Canada? Here’s where to see Foliage this Fall
While fall brings chillier conditions, it also brings fabulous colours throughout the country, and there’s still plenty of time for you to catch some of this great scenery in Canada.
Here are some great places to see the foliage this fall:
Winnipeg, Manitoba
If you want to see some seriously vibrant shades, head along the Assiniboine and Red Rivers for perfect photo opportunities. Don’t forget to check out the towering trees and fantastic plantings at Assiniboine Park, which is one of the top-rated parks in North America, and designed by a pupil of the man who designed Central Park in Manhattan- Frederick Law Olmstead.
Fredericton, New Brunswick
Visit Fredericton, and be sure to stop by the St. John River, which is full of hardwood trees that turn a variety of shades each autumn. Take the car, and drive a little further to Moncton or head north towards the Quebec border and Edmundston, for many fabulous colours.
Grey County, Ontario
These dramatic fall colours are due to the changes in elevation along the Niagara Escarpment. For stunning views of the Beaver Valley, take a quick, five-minute walk to Kimberley and the Old Baldy lookout, or visit the hills located above pretty valley which are up to 500 metres high and provide incredible views of the cascading fall colours.
Waterton lakes, Alberta
For some of the best views in Canada, head up to the top of the Bear’s Hump, where you can see into the United States, grab afternoon tea (or stop for a night) at the Price of Wales Hotel before driving to Red Rock Canyon or to Cameron Lake via Akamina Parkway.
Kootenays, B.C
A drive up to the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort can’t be missed, so visit Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, located at the top of a hill in Golden B.C for some seriously dramatic colour changes. This is one of the more underrated drives, but travelling from Golden to Field is simply stunning, and you’ll find fewer crowds compared to more well-known attractions such as the Icefields Parkway in Alberta.
Cape Breton, Nova Scotia
The Cabot Trail is one of the most popular drives in the world each summer, and the views are even more dramatic in fall, with the deciduous trees and evergreens giving you Instagram-worthy opportunities and a place to relax and soak up the nature around you.
Stop in at the Red Shoe Pub which you’ll find right before the Cabot Trail, or head to the Glennora Distillery for live music.
Toronto, Ontario
In Toronto, all the river parks that are a deep green colour during summer, turn in a variety of reds, yellows, and oranges in fall. Head up the Don Valley Parkway for a great view, or visit Wards Island (visa ferry) to see both autumn trees and cute homes.
