A quick search for mountain scenery on Pixabay will leave viewers staring in awe and longing to see those same views in person. The good news is that if you’re currently living in North America there are plenty of options that are either close by or are only a short plane ride away. Other options require venturing further afield. However, the list that follows contains some of our favorites.
North America’s National Parks. Those located in the American Midwest are particularly well-known for their sky scraping mountains and gorgeous views. The Yosemite, Zion, and Rocky Mountain National Parks are all good places to spend some time if you’re looking for gorgeous mountain views at an affordable price. After all, camping is a popular pastime in these spots and many of the aforementioned places have low entrance fees. Folks on the east coast may want to check out the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, which lacks the towering peaks but is just as beautiful in its own way. Meanwhile, Canadians are sure to find equally spectacular scenery in places like Banff National Park.
Dolomites, Italy. North American travelers normally miss out on this Italian mountain range in favor of the country’s more traditional, city based highlights such as Rome and Venice. However, it’s certainly worth taking some time out of your vacation to head for the hills. Who knows, you just might avoid the tourist crowds by getting off the overly beaten path! On the other hand, these mountains are part of the European Alps, which are a popular destination themselves. The picture below aptly illustrates why. It was taken in Germany, but the Alpine mountain range encompasses a broad swath of land and is part of eight different countries.
Of course, other countries such Scotland and Iceland get honorable mentions for having some very photogenic mountains of their own.
Happy Travels!
